JOHN MICHAEL DURIE
September 18, 1946 - March 27, 2026
John Michael Durie of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Friday March 27, 2026 on his 55th wedding anniversary at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents, Linus and Ethel Durie, his son, Jeffrey J. R. Durie, and his brother, Gary Durie.
John is survived by his wife, Sharon A. Durie; children, Michael Jon Durie (Pam), Valerie Ann Hines (Matt) and Matthew Peter Durie (Ashlee); and grandchildren, Kara Durie, Maggie Durie, Matthew Hines Jr., Caleb Hines, Alyssa Hines, Georgia Durie, Elizabeth Hines, Matilyn Durie and Matthew Durie.
A graduate of Lockport Senior High School in 1966, John proudly served with the 127th Military Police Unit in the U.S. Army from 1966-69. He worked for General Motors in three states for over 34 years and became a full-time volunteer at The American Red Cross of South-Central Kentucky after retirement devoting his time to the food pantry and assisting with fires and at natural disasters.
In addition, John served on several boards, community action groups and the Veterans Council. His love of Christ and family encouraged him to assist others in a special way whether in Haiti, in the community or at home.
A graveside service was held on Monday, April 6, 2026 at 1:15 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.

When John originally registered on our Class of '66 website way back in October of 2015, he wrote the following:
"Since retiring I have been a full time volunteer at the American Red Cross traveling to disasters around the country, responding to home fire calls to assist clients and teaching disaster preparedness classes in off time. Spend time teaching my grandchildren the gift of service to others."
Pretty much says it all---you made all of us proud, John, and you were a heckuva ballplayer growing up in Lockport, too!!!
