Aloha Class of '66 Friends,

I regret to inform you that another classmate and good friend to many of us, Eric Sebring, passed away in Tampa, Florida on Friday, October 14 from COVID-related complications. We're hoping to learn more about Eric's life in the near future which I'll then pass along to everyone as soon as possible.

When he heard of Eric's death, Paul Williamson remembered Eric as being "a special basketball player. Everything he did on a court was so smooth that he looked like he was hardly having to work at it. But he was, and he was always a team-first player. He was a great person and a good friend to me throughout high school. I am so sad he passed."

Like Paul, I was fortunate enough to be Eric's basketball teammate first at the "Y" and then on freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams. In addition to his basketball prowess, Eric was active with Omega Pi Hi-Y and, of course, was a member of the Varsity Club at LSHS.

One of my most vivid roundball memories of Eric is his "sweet" jump shot and I'll never forget the "What's up, Cap't?" banter between Eric and his good buddy on and off the court, John Fuerch, which still brings a smile to my face even to this very day.

If you have any information that you'd like to share about Eric and what he's been up to since our graduation in 1966, or if you would simply like to contribute your thoughts in remembrance of Eric, I encourage you to post your comments by going to the "In Memoriam" section of this website and clicking on Eric's name.

Regretfully Yours,

Chris

A great guy whom we had tons of fun with. Always up for a good time. He was aloof and his allure was you never quite knew what he was thinking. I will always remember his smile and his upbeat attitude. We will miss you, Eric. May God bless you and know you are remembered fondly by many. RIP, friend.

If you didn't know already, Gary confirmed Eric was a psychiatric/mental health registered nurse who resided at the same address in Tampa for at least the past 25 years---although I never knew Eric's middle name was John, I did recall Eric lived off of South Transit while we were in school together in Lockport, but now I remember thanks to a little nudging from Gary that his family's home was on Nichols Street---surprisingly, the Neptune Society obituary indicates Eric was born on July 31, 1947, but all the other online sources including his Classmate Profile on this website have August 31, 1947 as his date of birth.

Eric was a special person. Easygoing, friendly and always smiling. He may have been difficult to figure out but he never said a bad word about anyone. He got along with all. He was a great teammate and just made you feel good when you were around him. Rest in peace Sebs

Paul DeLange     Eric came to Emmet Belknap from Buffalo in 8th grade. His mother was 100% Native American and was a relative of Jay Silverheels (Tonto on the Lone Ranger). His father took Eric and I to the golden gloves finals at the old Memorial Auditorium when we were in 9th grade, and Sonny Liston refereed the heavyweight bout that night.  He was a medic in the Army, and then went into nursing when he got out. He had two daughters, Tisha and Erica, from his only marriage to Ann Degnan. We had a lot of fun together during the 1960s, and kept in touch periodically through the years...spent an afternoon in Olcott during our 50th and I last talked with him on his birthday (August 31st) in 2021. I spoke with his long time girlfriend, Karen Walsh, last weekend and Eric contracted Covid in mid August and passed two months later. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma several years ago and he just couldn't beat Covid as his immune system was compromised. I'm going to miss seeing him at our next reunion, and yes, he did have a sweet jumper!

Paul - I called Eric's former bro-in-law - the always entertaining Peter Degnan - after I learned of Eric's death.  He hadn't yet heard and was saddened by the news (as we all were).  Peter's sister, Annie, married another "Eric" after her marriage to Eric Sebring.  His name was Eric Dadd.  He was an attorney and long-time D-A in Wyoming County.  I ran into Annie and Eric at Danny Sheehan's - probably 12 years ago (maybe more).  Sadly he died of a heart attack at 61.  They lived in Attica - not far from the infamous prison.  RIP, Eric.  =HN=
